Conference: Making EU cities a safe place for children

Hosted by PAN Europe.

Where: Online

When: 30 March 2023, 10:00 - 12:30 CET

Language: English

Why this event: A child's brain, nervous system, and organs are intensively developing during the prenatal stage and the development continues after birth. When exposed, a baby's immature liver and kidneys cannot remove pesticides from the body as well as an adult's liver and kidneys. Infants may also be exposed to more pesticides than adults because they take more breaths per minute and have more skin surface relative to their body weight. In addition, children often spend more time closer to the ground, touching baseboards and lawns where pesticides may have been applied. Children do not make choices. They should be protected from dangerous environmental impacts.

Programme: The meeting will be chaired by PAN Europe.

The municipality of Carmignano, sensitive to environmental issues, has developed an alternative method for the elimination of mosquitoes in the public parks. It is an integrated mosquito management system that provides preventive solutions with the use of organic products, such as pest control with organic larvicide treatments that exploit insecticides and biological repellents, which are able to eliminate mosquito larvae respecting the environment and the ecosystem thanks to their selective action.

Simone Martini was awarded an Agricultural Expert Diploma in 1988 at the "Duca degli Abruzzi" State Agricultural Technical Institute (PD). He obtained a degree in Agricultural Sciences on December 19, 1996 at the University of Padua, discussing a thesis in urban entomology and has a practical application internship at the Plant Diseases Observatory of Mestre. He was granted a 4-year scholarship funded by the Veneto Region - Regional Directorate for Prevention - at the Institute of Agricultural Entomology of the University of Padua for the purpose of "Surveillance and control plan for the spread of Aedes albopictus and Anthropophilic culicides of coastal areas". He has a study on the influence of climatic factors on the speed of development and related control strategies on Hyphantria cunea at the WWF naturalistic oasis of Valle Averto. He co-owns Entostudio, providing pest control consulting services for public authorities and private companies.

Andrea Risaliti, born in Prato in 1981, CEO of LA SAETTA srl, a family business that for over half a century has been dealing exclusively with pest control. It is here that since 1997 he takes his first steps in the field of Pest Control, doing all the work, from the jobs of worker to those of today. He has a deep knowledge of the Pest Management World rooted in years of practical experience and continuous updates. Since 2019 he has been Founding Member and Director of AIDPI (Ass. Italian Professional Pest Control Companies) for which he is dealing with the regulations in UNI Headquarters that will address Pest Management in the world of Organic Food, and the second for sustainability in the world of pest control.
